Resurgent Medvedev Secures Maiden Trophy in Over Two Years
19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hard surfaces
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial championship for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.
The athlete, a ex- number one, has had a torrid year, winning just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.
The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in particular - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.
Presently training with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought competitive victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.
This represents the player's maiden championship since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt since March of the previous year.
The win also indicates Medvedev has won 21 victories at 21 various events.
"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is really nice," said world number 14 the champion.
"This title is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the first title I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, featuring in Halle previously this season.
The player's defensive strategy and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had caused observers to question if his skill to compete at the top level was finished.
Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.
The champion came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, taking 4 of the last five points to take the lead.
The competitors swapped breaks in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to create a final set.
The opponent rescued 4 early break points in a tight final set before the champion broke to fifteen to serve for the match.
Suitably, he clinched the title with a rally at the net area, with his opponent failing to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
